A simple and robust instrument for rapid in-situmeasurement of the structural properties of road pavements
Providesfastand efficientmethod of obtaining information

would normallyrequire test-pits. Correlations have been established between measurements withDCPandCaliforniaBearing Ration (CBR) so thatthe results can be interpreted and compared with CBR specificationsfor pavement design. Agreement is generallygood over most of the range but differences are apparent at low values of CBR,especiallyforfinegrainedmaterials.
It incorporates a 8Kg weight dropping through a height of 575mm and a 60 deg. cone having adiameter of 20 mm.Itissupplied completewithassemblytoolsandweighs20Kgapprox.
The DCPneeds three operators, one tohold the instrument, other toraise and drop the weight and a technician torecordthe results. The instrument is held verticallyand the weight carefully raised to the handle limit and then allowedtofall ontotheanvil.
